Off-road electric vehicles refer to any electric vehicle that does not travel on public roads. These include vehicles that travel on rails (such as electric trams or electric locomotives) as well as wheeled vehicles that are not intended for use on public roads (such as certain types of construction equipment, yard tractors, or airport ground support equipment). While these vehicles are usually an afterthought in the public’s mind when it comes to identifying the source of pollutants, the broad category of off-road vehicles is responsible for a significant portion of diesel emissions.
