TransPower is committed to developing and providing an exciting range of zero-emission transportation solutions for heavy-duty trucks and other large vehicles. Our focus is on developing and commercializing integrated electric drive systems that utilize energy supplied by on-board batteries. Until recently, batteries lacked enough energy storage capacity or were too expensive to serve as the sole source of energy for road vehicles, much less large trucks that can require hundreds of kilowatt-hours of energy every day. However, environmentally-conscious truck owners will soon be able to take advantage of the billions of dollars being invested worldwide in new battery technologies. Advanced batteries based on new chemistries such as lithium and zinc will soon enable even the largest vehicles to operate on clean, quiet electric energy. This section of the TransPower website describes some of the vehicles and applications that can take advantage of our new electric propulsion technologies and products. Trucks that operate for relatively short distances and that undergo a lot of stop-and-go driving will derive the greatest environmental and economic benefits from electric drive. These are among the least fuel-efficient vehicles on the road, and produce the greatest quantities of toxic emissions. Our electric drive products can provide a particularly high payoff for operators of trucks used for port applications such as drayage and for refuse and recycling trucks. In addition to supplying fully-integrated drive systems for these and other types of vehicles, TransPower provides a range of services to assist truck owners and operators in making the transition to zero-emission electric drive technologies. We have tools to help truck owners and operators calculate the emissions reductions and cost savings they can derive from going electric. We can also help companies identify sources of funding and tax incentives which can, in many cases, offset a large percentage of the costs related to adopting electric drive technologies. In some cases, Transpower will partner with truck owners and operators to secure funding and other financial incentives, or to demonstrate new components or vehicle applications. |
