This job will have the candidate rotating between the production floor, TransPower vehicles, and an office environment and thus requires a person who enjoys that diversity. This job will have the candidate perform tasks such as:
- Reverse engineering conventional vehicle wiring and control systems in preparation for conversion to advanced electric and hybrid electric vehicles including but not limited to documenting CAN communications, key I/O nodes, existing harness routing strategies, and accessory electrical loads, etc…
- Assisting lead system engineers in creating control system layouts and electrical drawings
- Documenting component installation process and practices
- Assisting in vehicle commissioning, testing, and deployment
- Discovering and documenting theory of operation of various vehicle components
- Serving as a liaison between engineering, production, and service
The ideal candidate would have:
- A strong understanding of vehicle electrical design and schematic layout, with focus on retrofitting conventional vehicles with advanced alternatively fueled powertrains
- Troubleshooting experience with tools such as oscilloscopes, multi meters, Vector CANalyzer, and general problem solving skills
- A strong understanding of vehicle sensors and associated I/O interface such as P-N-P vs. N-P-N speed sensors, controller I/O channels as varied as sinking or sourcing with/without recirculation diodes etc…
- Experience with CAN connected devices and knowledge of CAN communication protocol
